About the event

**Update 9/8

Greetings rider.

Ride Capacity:To avoid requiring permits, we have to limit this whole thing to 29 people since we would require a permit to gather more than 30 people on some of the municipal trails.  We are at about 15 right now, so if you know anyone else that is interested there is still some room.

The route:I went a little overboard with POI's since I upgraded my RWGPS subscription just for this event so this will likely be the most detailed route you ever take part in.  Here is the link.  Subject to a few tweaks but this is it, I'll send a follow up once it's the set in stone version.  I will also put out a route that by-passes some of the chunky and hilly stuff for anyone just looking for a long cruise by the end of the week.  I recommend downloading on Friday 9/16 to make sure you have the most up to date version.

Parking:The route starts from Scout's Coffee Bar and Mercantile on Main St. in High Bridge.  The best option for parking is the commuter lot (google Hoffman Veteran's Memorial), next I would try The High Bridge Commons (there is more parking at the back of the park too) and finally if all that is full you can the streets over off Church St and park on the street.  I live on Seal St. and will give some of the neighbors a heads up but technically the streets over there are public without time limit, so you shouldn't have any problems.  Main St (black) is 2 hour parking and is mainly used for people patronizing the business and they do occasionally ticket, so please don't park there.  Please note our town gets hectic on Saturdays between town rec soccer and the trails so be prepared to have to look around a bit for a spot.

Public Transportation:We have a train station but NJ transit doesn't run out this far on weekends.  If you are coming in on Friday night, this is a great option.  We are the last stop on the Raritan Valley Line.  I am happy to give anyone that needs it a shuttle to the closest running NJ Transit Station on Sunday just please let me know in advance.

Lodging:I have space at my house for people to camp out, nice flat soft ground, please just let me know ahead of time.  We have a half bathroom right inside our porch you can use as well so it's pretty plush digs as far as camping goes.  You are welcome to stay Friday and Saturday.  Don't really know me and feel weird about staying at my house? Voorhees State Park is a few miles up the road and the campground is open through October and is a solid option.  There is also a Marriott in Clinton a few miles away if you don't feel like roughing it.

Saturday:

So technically this is an unsupported ride.  There is no waiver, there is no registration, there is no swag bag, there is no insurance or permits (we do have to limit this to 29 people for that reason too, but hey, the first Dirty Kanza/Unbound had like 12 people, so look at us, here we are, you're on the ground floor, baby).  I am providing a route and some company.  With that being said I will have a "guestbook" at Scout's where you can say you were there, and maybe what time you left to do the route, and then you can sign that same guestbook when you get back, just for posterity (wink wink).  There may also be some Party Size NOT IPA available there, but we aren't ready to spill the BEANS on that yet.

This not a group ride, but it is nice to ride in a group, there is just no sweep or SAG if you run into a snag.  Also there are some challenging parts to the ride and maybe you don't want to do those, that's a-ok, walk what doesn't feel right, skip sections at will.  I can promise you I will be walking some of the single track.

This is intentionally a hub and spoke route so if you hit a snag you aren't stuck out in the middle of nowhere without anyone you know nearby.  You are never more than a mile from a house or cell service.  If you find yourself in a bind by yourself, you can call my lovely wife Jen, I will put her number on the guestbook.  She can come pick you up and my son Vaughn will talk to you about Minecraft while you get a ride back to town.

After you finish the route we will start the general Main St. Chicanery.  High Rail Brewery would be the spot after completing the route (and signing that guestbook) and from there we will play it by ear for anyone that wants to stick around.  High Rail allows outside food and there is pizza, Chinese and fancy Americana all steps away.  There is also merriment to be had at Circa and Mrs. Reilly's on Main St. as well.

If it's a modest size group sticking around we may just do a fire pit back at my house after dinner time.

Sunday:I had planned a route out to a nearby brewery that has music on Sunday early afternoon but unfortunately due to some recent events I have a memorial service to attend at noon so I will not be able to do that ride, but here is the route if you want to tackle it.  There is also the Flow Trails if you want to try your hand at downhill mtb/bmx and Nassau/Springside Trail System for more traditional single track.

For anyone that came in on the train, I'm happy to shuttle you to the Raritan Station in the morning or late afternoon.

That's everything I got.  I'm really excited to get to see these routes we do all the time through your fresh eyes.  See you soon.
